A tooth shaped cap or a crown usually above the gum line is always advisable to compensate the tooth structure lost due to caries/cavities. Especially in cases of root canal treatment, implants and smile design; crown can be applied alone or in form of a bridge as per clinical requirement. When applied alone, it is called crown and when more than one crown is applied, it is called bridge. These days crowns are made by CAD-CAM techniques due to its more accurate & precise outcomes. Scanning is done by intraoral scanners. It is not only accurate but also more comfortable for the patient as it avoids gag reflex due to impressions.
